Poll: Majority Back Carbon Cuts

According to a Washington Post-ABC News poll, a majority of Americans believe in global warming and support efforts to reduce carbon pollution.

The poll's findings show that 72 percent of respondents think
global warming is happening, with 55 percent feeling the U.S. should
curb emissions and move to mitigate their effects regardless of other
nations' policies.

Acknowledgement of global warming encompassed a
broad range of respondents. Along with 86 percent of Democrats, a
majority of Republicans and independents surveyed believe climate
change is happening.

The findings represent an ongoing surge in public support for climate action in 2009. Washington Post-ABC News polls inJune and August each found that a majority of Americans supported government efforts to curb carbon pollution.
