Education, Union Leaders in Washington to Support Clean Energy Jobs

Union leaders, community college presidents, and members of the jobs training community flocked to Washington, D.C. this week. The diverse group of leaders traveled from 10 states with one common purpose: to encourage members of the U.S. Senate to pass a climate bill now, and ensure the legislation includes funding of education and training for all sectors of the emerging clean energy economy.

The coalition supporting this effort includes NWF, the Blue Green Alliance, and the Campaign for Environmental Literacy. Leaders headed to Capitol Hill from AR, CA, CO, CT, MA, MI, NC, NM, OH, and VA. This group of educators and labor unions support a Senate climate bill that has dedicated funding to put Americans back to work.

“Now is the time to pass climate legislation that invests in new clean energy technology and solutions,” said Kevin Coyle, Vice President for Education and Training at NWF. “At the same time we must invest in our nation’s education and training infrastructure — at every level — to ensure Americans are prepared for the new jobs that will be created by the climate bill.”
