Today I’m heading over to Capitol Hill to testify in support of environmental and climate change education. As we transition to a clean energy economy, we must ensure our future leaders have the education they need to keep pace and remain competitive globally.

Research indicates that environmental and nature-based education programs can improve academic performance, increase student readiness to learn, and improve statewide test scores. Registering to be an Eco-School is one way our educators can integrate sustainable principles throughout their schools and curricula.

Another way to bolster American education is by increasing federal support for programs vital to the protection of our planet and future of conservation stewardship. That’s why I’m headed to Capitol Hill today to testify in support of funding for environmental education initiatives at National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), National Science Foundation (NSF), and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
