If we can’t go to the coast, maybe we can start a drive in our neighborhoods to gather and send old towels and toothbrushes to where the birds are being processed to remove oil. Supposedly there is a Wildlife Distress Hotline one can google. I contacted them and hope some people are getting back to me on this. As a 64 year old grandmother with serious asthma and a bad back, this is a way I can help besides sending some money.

Would love to know if the local wildlife officals were able to help the turtle who’s species is on the Threatened list? Loggerhead…

So many birds are nesting now and the sea life are having their young such as the dolphins, who must ingest the oil and feed toxic milk to the young. Such a tragedy for all God’s creatures including the humans.

Once the oil is cleaned from the birds do they fly back into it again.? Just wondering if the animals are returned to their habitat and getting oiled again.

I’m on the other side of the country & I feel so helpless. I’m thankful to NWF & all of the many animal rescue organizations that are working diligently to aid these animals. I sincerely hope you were able to rescue that turtle! Other than donations what can those of us who are so far away do to help efforts in the GOM?

I drove to work this morning and I saw several possums/squirrels, and various other animals on the shoulder. OIL was the least of their problem. So if you will send 10 bucks my way I promise to assist in relief efforts for these poor animals (I will slow down). Or does it have to be a cute animal to quialify?

Did they try and assist this turtle. If it has already been exposed to the oil it will be in jeopardy. Doesn’t rescuing involve preemptive assistance if they know an animal has been compromised in some way.

I’m so glad NWF is doing boat trips out to assess the oil damage because I trust NWF to spot wildlife in danger and to contact the appropriate emergency groups rather than the people simply cleaning up…So thank you for all your hard work and dedication!
