Favorite Moments from the Great American Backyard Campout in Ann Arbor — or in Your Own Backyard

It was a warm summer night in Ann Arbor, Michigan, when over 45 families gathered with NWF’s Great Lakes Regional Center at the Leslie Science and Nature Center for the Great American Backyard Campout ® on June 26th.

Children went on nature hikes, enjoyed story telling around the campfire, and in the morning woke early to the sounds of birds and the bright sun. Many families had never camped together before and were inspired to make camping a family tradition. Other families were old pros at camping and circled up their tents with those of friends and neighbors.

My favorite moments of the Great American Backyard Campout were walking in the woods with eager children, and hearing from parents that they planned on camping out more in the future.
