Standing on the Shoulders of Giants

06-17-10 PA Conservation Leaders Summit By Larry J. Schweiger

I had the honor of delivering the Michaux Lecture at the Conservation Leaders Summit in Valley Forge, my home state of Pennsylvania.

My talk “Pennsylvania Conservation: Standing on the Shoulders of Giants” was a great opportunity to build on the tradition of this lecture series, which was first delivered in the late 1800s to protest the environmental destruction of the time.

I was pleased to see that this spirit of determination is continued by the many great conservationists in the room who are standing up to demand that we protect Pennsylvania’s natural resources from the considerable challenges facing them today.
