Get To Know Contest: Enter Your Child’s Nature-Inspired Artwork

Get To Know ContestSince the first cave drawings, nature has inspired humans to create art. You can see that drive in your child — give him or her a crayon and  the paper will suddenly be filled with big green trees, bright yellow suns, fluffy white clouds, and those funny flying birds. (You know the ones — they look like sideways “3s”?)

Of course, creativity doesn’t stop with drawing. After a day in the great outdoors (or in a neighborhood park), kids can come up with amazing poems, stories, photos, and movies, too.

Celebrate your children’s masterpieces: Enter their nature-inspired drawings, videos, photos, or writing in the Get To Know Contest by November 30. NWF is partnering with the Robert Bateman Get To Know Program to spread the word about this fun way to connect kids with nature.

The theme this year is “Celebrating Biodiversity,” which means the art will celebrate the vast variety of wildlife and plants on the earth.  Art and writing winners will have their work published in the 2012 U.S. Get to Know Contest Calendar.

Plus, this year marks the launch of a new “This is My Forest” Video Category, in celebration of 2011 International Year of Forests and in partnership with the United Nations, the U.S. Forest Service, and Parks Canada. Winners receive wild prizes, including the opportunity to attend a week-long Get to Know Art & Nature Camp at a National Park in Canada.

Need inspiration? Check out previous winners! And you can find all sorts of crafts, activities, and tips to get outside with your kids from NWF’s Be Out There campaign.

Don’t forget to enter by November 30!
