Hi Aikidomarie,

I stand corrected. Decimated is an understatement in this situation.

With regards to this winter. In a quick skim of standard WNS resources, I have found a few resources you may wish to investigate. Check this website http://www.earthfiles.com/news.php?ID=1759&category=Environment for an interview with one of the authors of the Science paper I mentioned in this blogpost. This interview makes a few predictions about how the syndrome will spread westward in the coming years. The FWS will update its website as the syndrome is confirmed in new locations. Another resource is the Bat Conservation International website. They have an updated map http://www.batcon.org/images/stories/WNS_StatusMap_20101027_WNS_WebpageLarge.jpg which highlights potential transmission pathways.

Hope this helps!

In response to this article: "decimate" means to destroy 1/10th of something.
This plague has destroyed 95% of cave bat populations, that's a plague, far beyond decimation.
they are looking at extinction here if something doesn't work soon.
This has been in this country for only 4 years but yet 14 states and 2 Canadian provinces have lost 95% of their cave bat populations.
What will this winter bring?

Here is a project that will help people and wildlife. Please help us spread the news:

Submit photos to help those in need! Photographs uploaded on the subjects of wind, water or light can turn into real charitable donations. Each picture will go towards providing clean drinking water, solar power or wind turbine electricity in emerging countries
