You bring back memories for me, too. When my 13-yr-old granddaughter was about 5-6 we spent a lot of time in her back yard looking for bugs and things. She gave me a bug imbedded in a small block of resin on a key chain for Christmas that year….and I still carry it!! I can surely identify with your grandmother! Those are the special memories that will never fade.

Max, your description of your most recent conversations with your grandmother are so similar to mine it was both eerie and comforting in some way. I hope the experiences you were so kind to share end up becoming good memories for you and those you pass along to future family members that did not have an opportunity to meet your grandmother. The stories I tell my daughters about me sitting on my grandfather’s lap watching him play gin with “the men” and then later teaching me how to play gin have become the way they feel like they knew him. When we play cards as a family they often ask if I played this card game with my grandpa when I was a little girl.

i`m not about the bugs necessairly even though i have an appreciation for them but the getting outside, not just viewing but experiencing nature & remebering that we are all a part of it is what i value most & try to pass on . this is beautiful about your grandmother seeing you as part of it also for her memories of her life . thank you .

Love this story, Max. Sorry for your loss, but glad that your Grandma can still influence you to go “play in the dirt.” And you will have your memories of time spent with her while you are out there, collecting and releasing bugs and enjoying nature as all children should!
