Appeal to authority is not an argument, and without the Scientific Method, there is no Science. In simple terms, the Scientific Method consists of:
1. A documented, published (not necessarily in the politically-connected journals), testable hypothesis
2. A documented and published test, aka experiment, with fully documented and published supporting data and assumptions.
3. Third parties duplicate the published experiment and publish their results, data, etc.
4. Additional experiments are published with results, data, etc.
5. In many cases experiments (eventually) prove that the original hypothesis was invalid or just an approximation.
6. (In some cases, this process goes on long enough for us to label the hypothesis a Theory, or in rare cases, a Law)
7. See #5.

Wow - this is the weakest argument I've heard yet for global warming. Let's not debate the evidence and the science, let's look at the reactions of other people to the evidence and the science. If I think the alarmists have overstated the sensitivity of climate to CO2 and have weak support for the belief that positive and not negative feedback will be the dominant factor, the fact that the chairman of the JCS had bought into it isn't going to sway me.
