How did I not know about it? I could not agree more. I have such great memories of playing outside–with other kids and by myself–bike-riding, tree-climbing, making forts, pretending the neighborhood was a little village, exploring the woods (even though there was a Superfund site just steps away, which is odd, looking back). It drives me crazy that kids don’t play outside anymore–don’t “play” much at all–and that we parents are always so involved in every little activity. I keep thinking about all the reasons that have led to this (electronics obviously, achievement-anxiety, parents over-booked and over-booking kids, fears of abduction (totally inflated–no more dangerous now than in the 70s). BTW, have you seen Free-Range Kids? Great blog also. Thx — will check back.
