Polar Bears Keep Federal Protection
from Wildlife Promise
Global warming is threatening the survival of polar bears, and a U.S. District court judge agrees. In his decision, he upheld their federal protection under the Endangered Species Act. As he noted, “based upon the facts and the best available science”, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service was correct to list the animals as a threatened species in 2008. The judge rejected requests to remove federal protection for polar bears.
