Utterly Rediculous! The amount of red tape that has to be cut through, just to do what is Obviously ( even to a Blind man! ) the decent and compassionate, thing to do for these poor endangered Wolverines."Protocols" & "Procedures" & "Findings" & "Studies" which have to be pursued..Like Wild Goose Chases!..and Merry Go Rounds! That have our poor Wolverines and other at risk species slipping off the very face of the planet! before someone in their right mind can see the "Forest" through the Trees, and take appropriate action. Geez!
Well Anne, ...WAY TO GO GIRL! for showing things like they really are! And for providing this exposure for the education and advancement of this noble cause.
I'm very proud of you! And I dare say the Wolverines are too ;o)
The Wolverine to me represents the last Frontier of our vast Virgin Canadian and American Wilderness. The Wolverine is the epitome of the defintion of the word Fearless, and symbolizes all that is Freedom Loving and Grand and Noble and Pioneering in both the American and Canadian Citizens Spirit. It will be a very sad day indeed! if we lose this Beautiful Free spirit, for then, we will have also neglected all that our Wide Open Wilderness means to us.
I also read the contribution to this blog by Uncle Charlie...I was not aware that Montana still allows the trapping and Killing of these Rare Wolverines....Lord help them! Why?
I myself am a hunter, I was born and raised in Canada and have lived here all my life. I have always hunted small game, and once a year I will harvest a deer too. I eat what I harvest, and was taught it was a sin to waste game. I have never agreed with trapping...I can't understand why people in this day and age, can not be satisfied with wearing a factory made textile fabric coat? I admit that fur coats "look" and "feel" nice, but geez!...at what cost? I know that beaver are still trapped up here, and many of the trappers are Canadian Aboriginal Natives, all trappers in this part of Canada are required by law to pass a test issued by our Minister of Natural resources, and they also have to take updated courses to maintain their Licenses to trap. The trappers play an important part in managing the beaver populations of course, and are only allowed to take beaver when population increases dictate. The beaver are Plentiful though! Practically every pond in our northern forests have beaver populations...and the ministry only allows the harvesting of beavers when their numbers are able to regenerate future generations.
But..... why would anyone want to harvest an animal such as our Wolverines...that is being considered for the endangered species list? This doesn't make sense!
Thank god!.... a few others,.... Like Charlie and Anne...see this also!
Well, I Thank you again Anne, for being who, and what, you are as a caring person, and also for providing me this opportunity to try and shed some Light on a Very Beautiful animal that is dear to my heart, and Deserving of all the Protection that we can throw it's way. I also recommend anyone Interested in Learning more about our Wonderful Wolverines visit the Wolverine Foundation Website.....For Interesting Facts, Videos, and Pictures, and also opportunities to help protect this Unique Free Spirit while it still Inhabits our great Wilderness areas.

P.S. Did you know that Indian Legends say that Wolverine has a Magical Spirit? Indian Lore states that Wolverine is a "Power Animal" & a Link between the Material and Spirit Worlds. Much as the Raven is as well, in other Tribal Legends. Many Indian Tribes also refer to the Wolverine as the "Indian Devil" and the "Trickster"...as he can steal bait from traps that even the Mink and Fox get caught in. Some of the Indian names for the Wolverine in the Innu, & Wabanaki, & Mi'kmaq, & Maliseet, & Passamaquaddy Tribes is..."Keekwajou", and "Keekwajoo", and "Gigwadju", and "Keehcajoo".
Keekwajoo is pronounced "KEE - KWAH - JOO"
The Indian Devil in native tongues, is "Skicinuwi - Wahant" and also "W'skidciwi - Wahant"
Thank you for your time Folks! :o) Have a great Day!
                                                                       Sincerely, a Keekwahjoo Lover ;o)

In response to the comment by Helvarg, yes, the list of animals and plants listed by year can be found here: http://ecos.fws.gov/tess_public/pub/speciesCountByYear.jsp. According to this, 93 have been added since 2008.

Also, as wolverines are considered in the running for listing as an Endangered species but given the great amount of species ahead of them in line, so-to-speak, are considered less of a priority, speeding up the process for all species being considered will help them. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced on Friday, September 9, its intention of doing so in an agreeement that requires the agency to make initial or final decisions on whether to add the hundreds of imperiled plants and animals waiting to be added to the federal endangered species list by 2018. See http://www.fws.gov/endangered/improving_ESA/listing_workplan.html. Let Montana know, Uncle Charlie, that wolverines need this protection and keep pushing for their listing! We are following the fate of all of these species.
