Alaska Wind Power Project Approved!

The state of Alaska has given the green light to a new 17.6 megawatt wind farm on Fire Island, located a few miles offshore of Anchorage. The long-debated project benefitted from federal stimulus dollars and state support, as well as an Alaska policy of generating 50% of its power from renewable sources by 2025.

NWF helped create that policy, and also participated in developing the regional energy plan that identified the Fire Island project as one of a diverse and economically viable set of projects and efficiency measures that will achieve the 50% goal.
