It’s important to understand how unlikely this victory was. Six months ago, almost no one outside the pipeline route even knew about Keystone. It was interesting to watch two groups who usually are at odds – the old timer and the “tree huggers” – come together for a common goal. We all win.

Albertans and Canadians in general are as divided about the tar-sands issue right in Alberta as are Michiganders on the Rio Tinto intrusion into the U.P. Money/profit should not be the decision-maker in such issues. I hope that ultimately what is actually best for Earth and its residents is what prevails versus corporate finance.
