Smokey Bear visited my first grade in 1952. The class was agog and I'm sure they, grown up now, have never forgotten. One child had a Smokey Bear doll and went to the other classrooms with his conservation talk. With the help of the State Forest Service, we raised a try of pines and each one went home to be planted in a back yard on Mother's day. Keep Smokey. He is a national treasure!
