GUEST POST: Hooked on Fishing

I can’t remember exactly how old I was when I learned how to fish, but since then I have been hooked. I love everything about fishing. Every year, I can’t wait to start getting my gear ready, and get back to my usual fishing spots. When the warm weather starts, I begin to fill up with excitement about going to the lake, and casting out to get that tug on the other end of the line.  The best thing about hunting and fishing is the break from the real world that it gives you.

Hunting and fishing both give you a chance to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. One of the best things about fishing is just being at the lake, pond, river, or wherever. It doesn’t matter if I don’t get a single bite; just being able to get outside and enjoy nature makes it fun. Fishing with my family growing up was always a really great time. Everybody gets the chance to go out, and help each other and swap stories, and brag and joke. That may be the best part of fishing.

Fishing and Family

I remember when I was pretty young; I went with my brother and my great-grandpa to go fishing. There he helped us catch grasshoppers for bait, and we caught a ton of fish. I remember how much fun we had, and I hunting and fishing can offer families opportunities like that.  Since I was really little, my dad has always taken my brothers and me out fishing, and it is a fantastic time to bond. We all learned how to tie knots from him, and bait our hooks, and take the fish off of the line. I have several friends who can’t do any of those things, and I am lucky that I had the chance to go out with my dad and learn some good lessons in the great outdoors.
