Actually the arrival of migrants is just getting started here at Blackwater NWR. The migration season might be over for early migraters — like ospreys — but it’s still ongoing for many other species like mallards and Canada geese.

Interesting article, but why no discussion of the “positive” benefits to the natural communities for large storm events. Not all impacts are negative. Generally in nature, for every species that is negatively impacted, there is another species to take advantage. Hurricanes are part of the natural system and I think that end of the story was missed here.
