No, the oil is not extracted from the sand before. That's why all of the descriptions you read speak of tar sands flowing through the pipeline. If this were not the case, then the pipeline in from Canada would simply pump oil to a tie-in with the existing Northern tier E-W pipeline and on down.

There is neither a refinery in Canada or Houston, at this point, that can handle this witches' brew, to boot. IF Canada/China were going to extract the oil from the sand in situ (which makes eminent sense), they would do the main refining there and sell a value-added product to America. But, that is not the plan.

And, yes, I do. Plus my community runs all of its regional bus service on hydrogen fuel cells with LNG or electric w/ solar charger stations for the smaller units. There are no normal fossil fuel vehicles in the regional transit service and few in most neighboring cities' fleets.

BTW: USPS, UPS & FedEx have replaced all of their local delivery fleets throughout the Country with LNG or electric. Only some of the long-haul semis still burn diesel, and often bio-diesel at that.

I do. I traded in my S-4 for a Nissan Leaf. No more oil or gas for me, and I absolutely LOVE my little car with ZERO emissions. It's such a simple solution. The electricity is drawn from solar power.

I strongly agree and appreciate the truth being said! At the least it is good to see there are still others in their right mind about the whole picture of consequences there will be. We have seen it far too many times in the past to even bother bringing up another plan of extracting (attack) to just be another un-thought-out operation and once again go wrong to our despise and after the "big dawgs" or I like to say' little kick me dogs' get their pockets filled the only way it will bring more jobs to others is if they pay out for clean-up after the trend like we have seen of ANOTHER spill. complete human disgust not giving a care what will be ruined in turn of $greed$ way2 teach the youth

The oil is extracted from the sand before its put in a pipeline or truck or train car. I think the real question at this juncture is how can we as individuals cut our personal reliance on a product that has become the death of the planet. I see may people wring their hands over this issue but do you do things personally to affect your community's overall impact?
