Photos of Wildlife Across America
This week, I returned from a road trip vacation across America, driving from Boston to my home outside Yosemite, California. I visited four national parks, and spent an extended period in Yellowstone, where I worked for three years. During my trip, I encountered an array of amazing wildlife, from discovering a robin’s nest in upstate New York, to swimming (a bit panicked) in a lake with a water snake in Missouri, to watching newly born bison calves with their distinct orange coats frolic in meadows in Yellowstone.
I wanted to share some of my favorite photos from these encounters:
At the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone in Yellowstone National Park, I watched an osprey pair fly in and out of their nest on a rocky ledge.
In Badlands National Park in South Dakota, a herd of bighorn sheep performed their elegant, rock-climbing ballet.
On the Beartooth Highway in Montana, deemed “the most beautiful road in America,” a herd of mountain goats foraged for food exposed by the newly melted snow.
At Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park, a great horned owlet emerged from the nest to consider a herd of elk grazing nearby.
A juvenile killdeer searched for food in a hotspring in Yellowstone National Park.
A napping bison in Yellowstone National Park had almost shed its heavy winter coat.
A pronghorn pair in Grand Teton National Park grazed among the spring wildflowers.
