To meet our mission this summer, Navy Community Recreation is getting involved in an exciting camping and recreation awareness campaign called “Navy’s Great Campout” that coincides with the National Wildlife Federation’s Great American Campout.

Navy Community Recreation’s mission is to deliver Community Recreation services in the most effective way possible by developing lifelong leisure skills and socialization activities and creating active lifestyles for sailors and their family members. Some of the most scenic campsites are right on the Navy installations with soaring mountain views, pristine beaches, and crystal-clear lakes.

Our sailors, their family members, and eligible patrons can truly experience the great outdoors at their nearest Navy Getaways locations. Navy bases that do not have Navy Getaways locations are venturing off on their outdoor camping adventure at nearby state or national parks.

Our sailors and their members will experience different worldwide camping adventures throughout our 76 Navy bases. For instance, in the Mid-Atlantic Region, Navy Community Recreation will be offering an overnight camping experience, and the first 16 families/groups to sign up will receive free tents and lanterns rentals.

In the afternoon, they will be offering a bicycle safety class followed by a bike ride in the Northwest River Bark. They will also have telescopes available for star gazing, dinner and breakfast for participants, outdoor movies on a big screen, s’mores around the fire, and a yoga session in the morning.

Additionally, in the Southwest Region, there will be over 200 sailors and their family members camping on a white sandy beach, while learning how to kayak and paddle boarding in the afternoon. These are just some of the great programs being offered at various Navy installations worldwide.
