15 Adorable Wildlife Puppies for National Puppy Day

Ask anyone who knows me, and they’ll tell you that two of my favorite things are: 1) wildlife and 2) puppies. When I’m not at work helping protect the first, I can most often be found hanging out with my rescue puppy, Allister. So when I happened across the fact that March 23rd is National Puppy Day – smack dab in the middle of National Wildlife Week – I knew this blog needed to happen.

Here is my celebration of two great things about this world, wildlife and puppies, combined into one. Commence: Wildlife puppies!

Love is in the air…and not just for people. Wildlife have their own rituals of l’amour, although they usually don’t involve boxes of chocolates or bouquets of flowers. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, here are some of my favorite photos and videos of wildlife romance (real or imagined) that I have taken over the years.

New Tourist More Than DC Can Bear?

Here in the Washington, DC area, we’re used to a summer tourist invasion. But this may be a bit much — a bear spotted less than two miles northwest of the National Zoo:

A bear was caught on security camera at an apartment building in the 4800 block of Connecticut Avenue NW at about 6:45 a.m. Friday. The bear and two deer were eating.

The building manager said wildlife is common in the area — but not bears.

The animals were only in the courtyard for a few minutes before leaving.

As they adapt to human activity, wildlife have slowly been extending their range in the Washington, DC area. Until now, the most notable newcomer had been the coyote. Watch the security video showing the bear & the deer:
