Copenhagen Event: Last Chance for Wildlife

12-14-09 Larry at Copenhagen Book event By Larry Schweiger

I was pleased to see good attendance at National Wildlife Federation’s event this Saturday at the climate discussions in Copenhagen, Denmark. I was joined by Steve Schneider of Stanford University and Bob Deans of Natural Resources Defense Council to discuss our new books.

In my book Last Chance: Preserving Life on Earth I share how my lifelong passion for wildlife has brought me here to Copenhagen. Did you know that global warming is the single biggest threat facing wildlife today? In its 2007 report, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change stated that 20-30% of plant and animal species worldwide are likely to be at increased risk of extinction if increases in average global temperatures exceed 2.2-4.0° F above current levels.

That’s why I and so many others who care about wildlife and people are here in Copenhagen, enduring cold, long lines and long days, to reduce climate change pollution and give wildlife this last chance.
