Breaking: New Tar Balls Reported Ashore in Louisiana

Tar ball at Florida's Perdido Bay State Park, June 2010

This just in from WDSU in Louisiana:

Oil is beginning to wash ashore at Grand Isle.

The mayor’s office said tar balls are coming ashore on Elmer’s Island and sand dollar-sized patches of oil are washing up in Grand Isle.

The environmental group Louisiana Bucket Brigade said it was the worst instance of oil contamination since the BP oil spill.

The National Wildlife Federation’s coastal Louisiana staff will be checking out these latest reports & let you know if any newly-ashore oil is affecting Gulf ecosystems. But it’s just one more piece of evidence that no matter what BP says, the Gulf oil disaster is far from over.
