Earth Tomorrow Atlanta Program Helps Get Out the Vote for Georgia Senate Runoff Election

A record-breaking 4.4 million ballots (and counting) have been cast in the January 5th Georgia Senate Runoff election, and Earth Tomorrow Atlanta played a role in getting out the vote!
Thanks to generous support from the National Wildlife Federation Action Fund, National Wildlife Federation Board, and Clean and Prosperous America, the Earth Tomorrow Atlanta program expanded its new voter engagement campaign to include Get out The Vote efforts for the Georgia Senate Runoff election, which has determined the balance of power in the U.S. Senate.
Prior to Georgia voters casting over 3 million ballots during early in-person voting, Earth Tomorrow students volunteered at the first-ever Earth Tomorrow Voter Rally Drive-Through in Decatur, Georgia on December 12th.
The rally was set up to encourage local residents to make their plan to vote early. Earth Tomorrow volunteers set up stations for participants to pull up to and make their plan to vote. The stations included important voter information, free voter swag, and a lively crowd of volunteers rallying passersby to make some noise for voting.
Over 20,000 people were reminded to vote in this critical election by our rally efforts.
An integral part of the voter campaign strategy included a meaningful and effective social media strategy that included a dynamic and engaging feed. The heart of Earth Tomorrow’s social media campaign focused on getting the word out about important voting deadlines and offering voter guidance, such as how to vote by mail or where to find polling locations. The campaign has been a huge success with our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram posts being seen by users over 39,000 times.
Our other main focus was reaching out to Earth Tomorrow members and other Georgia youth, giving them tips on how to be civically engaged even if they were not of voting age.
The voter education campaign also gave us visibility that enabled us to meet and grow relationships with other community organizations who advocate for youth voter education in both metro Atlanta and the state of Georgia like: Civic Georgia, March On, Peaches to the Polls, Future Coalition, and Students for Tomorrow.
The late Georgia congressman John Lewis stated that “The vote is the most powerful nonviolent tool or instrument we have. We must use it.” More than 4.4 million Georgians exercised this tool, including a dedicated network of Earth Tomorrow students and alumni, and made history!
