Economic Message of the Week: Obama Announces $2.3B in Clean Energy Tax Credits

President Obama has announced the award of $2.3 billion in Recovery Act Advanced Energy Manufacturing Tax Credits for clean energy manufacturing projects across the U.S.

"Building a robust clean energy sector is how we will create the jobs of the future," said President Obama. "The Recovery Act awards I am announcing today will help close the clean energy gap that has grown between America and other nations while creating good jobs, reducing our carbon emissions and increasing our energy security."

Tens of thousands of new jobs are expected from the 183 funded projects (xls), which span 43 states and encompass revitalized solar, wind, and energy efficiency technologies. The effort, along with other stimulus investments, will drive growth in the renewable energy sector and help the U.S. move ahead on the international stage.

Technologies included in the projects selected for tax credits include smart grid development, building efficiency, energy management, solar energy, and wind energy, and will address the "broad spectrum of manufacturing capabilities needed to support a robust clean energy economy."
