Joe Romm and Climate Change: It’s Personal

By Larry J. Schweiger

I recommend Joe Romm’s book Straight Up. I saw Joe speak recently to The Climate Project presenters in Nashville, Tennessee and was struck by the title and image of his opening slide, which was a picture of Joe and his daughter. Joe shared that he’s passionate about climate change because it’s personal to him. He cares about the world he will be leaving for his daughter and wants to do something about the serious threats of global warming she will inherit. As a father and grandfather, I can understand Joe’s concerns.

There’s an old saying “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” Joe’s passion, combined with his firm grasp of the science and his direct and succinct coverage of the latest climate change threats and opportunities for solving this crisis, make Straight Up a unique coverage of this material and a worthwhile read.

In addition to Straight Up, I also recommend Joe’s blog Climate Progress, which was named by Time as one of the top 25 blogs. Joe is a “fierce climate blogger” and his book and blog are serious and important contributions to the field.
